MIT-licensed macOS 14+ disk space analyzer in SwiftUI styled as a retro CRT console with pixel art. Scans the home folder in seconds, explains each big folder (what it is, which app owns it, what happens if deleted, whether it regrows) with a Safe/Review/Keep verdict driven by an editable rules.json knowledge base, and covers caches, Xcode DerivedData/simulators, node_modules, Docker and VM disks, local AI models (Ollama, LM Studio, Hugging Face), iPhone backups. Trash-only cleanup: refuses top-level folders, empties Caches contents while keeping the folder, suggests the better tool per item (docker system prune -a, xcrun simctl delete unavailable, ollama rm). Full-content duplicate finder for files 1 MB+. 100% offline - 'no network code, no account, no tracking'. Unsigned DMG; 'Open Anyway' required on first launch.

v0.1.0 DMG is unsigned and not notarized: 'the first launch needs Open Anyway' (post and README); 'Not yet' list includes Developer ID signing and Apple notarization
'100% offline. No network code, no account, no tracking' (README)
User-space app: asks for Full Disk Access (TCC) or per-folder consent, never root; folders not allowed are marked Locked
No updater; manual DMG download from GitHub releases
No SECURITY.md or security contact in repo or README as of 2026-11-02
Author's previous project: MCP server that maps a codebase into ~1000 tokens (tree-sitter + PageRank) for Cursor, VS Code Copilot and Claude Desktop. Same launch pattern: repo created and reddit-promoted 2026-03-30.
Research notes
Same-day everything on 2026-11-02: repo created 13:42Z, v0.1.0 DMG published 13:43Z, reddit promotion 14:00Z, Vercel site and Product Hunt badge committed by 14:56Z - the whole public artifact is five commits, all from launch day.
Deletion-safety design is better than the wave average: moves to Trash only, refuses top-level folders like ~/Library, trashes the contents of ~/Library/Caches while keeping the folder, and delegates the one permanent action (Empty Trash) to Finder after a warning.
Explanations live in Sources/RoomyCore/rules.json, a plain editable rule list (path patterns to what/owner/ifDeleted/verdict/comesBack/howToClean); README invites rule PRs: 'Only write what you're sure of: people delete things based on these words.'
README's own 'Not yet' list: AI explanations for unruled folders, hard links and APFS clones miscounted as duplicates, Developer ID signing and notarization.
Author Tushar Karkera's portfolio is AI-assisted dev tooling (RepoMap-AI: MCP codebase maps for Cursor/Claude Desktop), launched 2026-03-30 with the same repo-created-and-promoted-same-day pattern; GitHub account since Apr 2022, 41 public repos, real-name commits.
Earliest author promotion found (14:00Z), 18 minutes after the repo went public and same day as the release, site and Product Hunt badge; 'Help' flair.
My Mac hit 85% full and ~/Library alone was 96 GB. — Problem statement
Roomy scans in seconds (606k files in 17s), explains every big folder with a Safe / Review / Keep label, and moves things to the Trash only. Offline, MIT licensed. — Trust signal
Not notarized yet, so the first launch needs "Open Anyway" — Trust signal
Same-day companion post on the retro CRT/pixel-art UI craft - a product distinctive the r/MacOS post does not cover; source of the hand-drawn-assets claim in tech_stack_raw.
Pixel font from text glyphs, sprites from ASCII strings, LED bars, and an app icon rendered by the app itself. — Tech bingo
