Safety-first macOS cleaner written in Rust, driven as a CLI with an interactive ratatui TUI dashboard. Dry-run by default (requires --execute), moves files to the macOS Trash instead of deleting, strict blocklist/allowlist, and active-browser detection that skips caches of running browsers. Cleans general caches/logs/tmp plus developer targets: Docker (interactive wizard, protects running containers), Xcode (DerivedData, Archives, DeviceSupport), npm, pip, and Homebrew. 'Project sweep' finds dormant projects (Rust, Node, Python, Gradle, Go, Flutter) and offers interactive cleanup of node_modules/target/.venv etc. JSON Lines audit log under ~/.cli-ner/logs/, disk analyzer, and large-file finder. Installs via Homebrew tap, install.sh, or cargo.
Mechanical checks derived from the fields above. Each row is one fact; "not yet checked" means exactly that, not a failure. There is no composite score; read them together.

Research notes
First r/coolgithubprojects submission was taken down by Reddit (content_takedown); an identical repost went up 1 minute later.
Repo created 2026-08-17T11:03:22Z; first announcement (r/vibecoding) 53 minutes later, same day.
No GitHub releases exist despite the README advertising precompiled release binaries, a release-version badge, and an install.sh that downloads 'the latest precompiled release binary'. Companion homebrew-tap repo created next day (2026-08-18); not published on crates.io.
Commits are authored by github.com/fabrizioriccardovdm (15 commits) while the repo lives under fabrizioriccardo73 - the author operates two GitHub accounts.
Repo went quiet 13 days after creation (last push 2026-08-30); the author moved on to promoting other apps.
Canonical entry; repost one minute after the first version (1vqt4lv) was taken down by Reddit.
Most cleanup tools are either sketchy closed-source subscription apps (like CleanMyMac) or risky one-liner bash scripts that `rm -rf` without a safety net. — Problem statement
So I created CLI-NER — an open-source, fast, and safety-first CLI & TUI tool built in Rust to analyze and clean disk space on macOS. — Virtue
Reversible by default: Files are moved to the macOS Trash (~/.Trash), not permanently deleted. — Trust signal
Dry-run by default: cli-ner clean simulates the operation first. You have to pass --execute to actually touch files. — Trust signal
The project is 100% free and open source (MIT licensed). — Virtue
