devclean is a safety-first CLI that finds and selectively removes Rust targets, node_modules, framework/build/test caches, package caches, and unused Docker data while protecting Git-tracked files, backups, databases, symlinks, mounts, and Docker volumes. Later versions added a native SwiftUI macOS menu bar app.

Checks
Mechanical checks derived from the fields above. Each row is one fact; "not yet checked" means exactly that, not a failure. There is no composite score; read them together.

- MIT source published to crates.io and still downloadable after the GitHub repo's deletion
- CI applied SLSA build-provenance and SBOM attestations to release archives, but the proofs lived in the deleted repo and can no longer be verified; exe Authenticode status not checked
- SECURITY.md present in the published crate
- No bit-reproducibility support; dependency-pinned builds (cargo --locked) plus attestations were the verification path
- 0.2.0 source has no network dependencies; later README describes opt-in, privacy-filtered Sentry crash reporting
- User-space CLI cleaning developer caches; no elevation in source
- No self-updater in source; distribution via winget and cargo, which handle updates externally
Relations
- name collision DevCleaner (vashpan/xcode-dev-cleaner)
Unrelated, similarly named macOS cleaner for Xcode caches; also in this catalog as 'devcleaner'.
Research notes
- Solo project by Lê Anh Tuấn (tuanle96): a Rust CLI for auditing and removing rebuildable dev artifacts (node_modules, cargo target, Docker caches), with a SwiftUI macOS menu bar app added later. Shipped 0.2.0 through 0.9.0 in four days (2026-07-11 to 2026-07-14).
- Deletion-safety design confirmed in the crates.io 0.2.0 source (~2,100 LOC): forbids unsafe code, blocks candidates containing Git-tracked files by default, requires typing DELETE interactively, atomically renames each candidate into a same-filesystem quarantine before removal, and restores the original path on failure. That version has no network dependencies; the later README documents opt-in, privacy-filtered Sentry crash reporting.
- Releases were CI-built on GitHub Actions (cargo build --locked for Linux, macOS, and Windows plus a universal macOS menu bar build) with SLSA build-provenance and SBOM attestations.
- VirusTotal manual check (2026-11-03): winget 0.2.0 zip 0/66 detections, dropped devclean.exe 0/70; DetectItEasy reports a Rust + MSVC linker toolchain matching the documented CI build.
- GitHub removed the author's account: the repo and profile 404, and the merged winget submission PR #400727 also 404s - self-deleted accounts leave their PRs and issues intact under the @ghost user, so this was an enforcement removal, not a self-deletion (reason unknown; the precedent is documented in the NixOS 'volth' case).
- The registries did not follow GitHub's removal: crates.io still serves devclean-cli 0.2.0-0.5.0 (none yanked) and the winget manifest remains, still pointing at the deleted release zip. The GitHub-only releases up to v0.9.0 and the attestation proofs are unrecoverable, so the shipped binary can no longer be re-verified against source.
